I can so identify with this post that I read last night. Especially this line: “Imagine you’re drowning… and someone hands you a baby.” Carter is by far my easiest baby…and the older two kids have transitioned so well to having a baby brother. It’s been practically seamless….except the fact that I have so not been on top of things since he came! I feel like I’m never caught up on ANYTHING!
Which is one reason why it’s nearly 1:30 am and I’m going upstairs to pay bills and finish some taxes. Doesn’t that sound fun? Because I just realized that they’re almost due and I haven’t touched them. And I KNOW that there’s no way I’ll have time to touch them during the day. Which leaves night time. Ever feel like drinking a pot of coffee and just staying up all night long crossing stuff off your to-do list? That’s how I feel right now. Too bad I’d be a zombie tomorrow if I did that!
I’m not going to lie…one of my favorite parts of having two kids of the same gender is being able to dress them in matching outfits! These are just a couple of the matching outfits they have!
I don’t know why this picture won’t flip, but whatever. It’s 1:15 am…I have bigger problems than this!
Today it occurred to me that I need to start figuring out what activities the kids are going to do this winter. I want them to do something like dance, gymnastics or something like that to burn some energy. I think it’s going to be a long cold winter, so it will probably be necessary for everyone’s sanity!
I think dance will definitely we something we’ll be looking into for Ava. We already bought/borrowed all of the equipment for that, so we’d just have to pay for the lessons. That’s a definite plus….the kids tried a lot of new things this last summer and we found out that once you pay for lessons and equipment (such as wrestling singlets for kids ), it adds up.
I have a month or so to figure out what we’re going to do since we don’t do fall sessions (with the Feast, they’d have to miss classes and I hate that when the classes are so expensive).
We got back from Branson late Monday night and I’m still trying to get us back into our normal routine.
Carter got completely off his schedule while we were gone. He used to take one long nap in the afternoon, and a couple other catnaps, but now he’s skipping his long nap. For the record, this does not help with the whole “getting back to normal” thing! At all.
We got to sleep in this morning, which helped me feel better. I had been staying up so late trying to do laundry and get things ready for the next day every night while we were in Branson. I had a doctor appointment this morning, so we didn’t get much done.
After lunch, Ava and Kelvin and I dived right back into school. We’re starting the 1st unit of My Father’s World and they did really well. Ava told me that doing school was her favorite part of the day because we didn’t do reading , so we may be taking a break from Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. MFW has a reading component in it, so we may just be using that for awhile. Maybe we can go back to it in a month or so?
After school, Carter was napping so the kids played in Ava’s room while I bounced back and forth between their rooms trying to get some unpacking done. I got all of Carter’s done, but then he decided I was done. It’s going to take awhile because I’m also packing away their summer clothes and taking out their winter clothes.
Since Chad was home, we all went to Walmart to get some groceries and Kelvin’s birthday party invitations. Chad and Ava were looking at video games while the boys and I shopped. It’s crazy how much easier things are when you take one of the older kids out of the equation…it totally eliminates the fighting and bickering!
The kids were starving when we got home, so I got dinner on the table and got everyone fed. Somehow, I managed to get the groceries put away as well, but the dishes are still waiting in the sink. There’s always tomorrow!
Once the kids were in bed, I posted the invoices so that maybe I can finally get statements out tomorrow. And then Mr. Carter was awake again, so he’s been snoozing on my lap ever since while I did some work on the laptop. This is my favorite time of the day. I will be so sad when he’s too big to stay up with me snuggling all evening. 🙁
